Do you WORRY about things that haven't happened yet? Do you live in the past and the future and NOT the present?  If your answer is YES, most likely you live with ANXIETY and WORRY. When you don't live in the moment, you create many WHAT-IF's. What if's create a sense of unknown and a sense of having no control.  My belief is that anxiety and worry mask what you are actually FEELING.  For instance, what is behind your WORRY?  If you were to take the mask of worry off, what would be left? Sadness? Fear? Aloneness?  Is it possible you might be experiencing any of these feelings?  What would happen if you felt the feelings instead of the anxiety?

 First, the process of ART keeps you in the here and now and teaches you how to be in the present moment. It is the process of doing ART rather than the actual product that is calming and keeps you in the moment. If you can make an art practice a daily activity, you will bring more calm into your life.  Just by making more time in your day to do something creative, you will lower your stress level. But, the one creative practice that is part meditation and part art, are MANDALAS.  The word mandala is from the Hindu language of Sanskrit and simply means "circle." I have written a lot on my blog about the art of mandalas and encourage you to go to my archieve and read more about mandalas.  All you really need is paper and pencils, colored or regular pencils. You can also use CRAYONS, pastels or markers too.  Here are some examples of free-style mandalas. Have fun; invite calm into your life!
